Registrations for Spotted Wing Drosophila, June 2019

Registrations for SWD in 2019 are below. Insecticides are only part of managing SWD. Growers need to use as many of these management tools as possible:

  • Harvest regularly and thoroughly
  • Cool fruit immediately after harvest
  • Sanitation: remove unmarketable fruit from the field or crush it in the alleys
  • Prune, trellis or manage the crop canopy to improve harvest efficiency and spray coverage
  • When applying insecticides make sure to get excellent coverage; slow down, calibrate your machine, apply when SWD is active (morning and evening), and re-apply weekly and after it rains
  • Rotate through the different chemical groups

13-07A Caneberries includes raspberries and blackberries and other brambles.

13-07B Bushberries includes blueberries, currants, gooseberries, saskatoon berries, sea buckthorn, elderberries, etc.

12-09 Stone fruit includes apricot, sweet and sour cherry, nectarine, peach, plum

Spotted wing drosophila is a serious pest in Ontario and suppression products may not provide acceptable levels of control. Do not make more than 2 consecutive applications of Group 5 insecticides.
