Traps have gone up for spotted wing drosophila at a few sites across the province- Norfolk, Elgin, Halton, Haldimand, and Hamilton.
The first SWD were identified on traps last week (June 2-8) – 1 in Elgin county and 1 in Norfolk county. 1 SWD was identified this week:

Management is not needed until we have sustained catch (2 weeks in a row) and ripe fruit is present. No sites we are monitoring are at sustained catch. Monitoring on your own farm is important. Salt water tests can be a useful tool to monitor for larvae.
