The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of an URMULE registration for MakoTM Insecticide for control of spotted wing drosophila (SWD) on caneberries* (subgroup 13-07A), bushberries* (subgroup 13-07B), low growing berries* (subgroup 13-07G) and cherries in Canada. These approvals also included control of wasps in cherries. MakoTM Insecticide was already labeled for use on a number of crops in Canada for control of several pests and has been available as an emergency use for SWD for the past few years.
These minor use projects were submitted by Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Pest Management Centre (AAFC-PMC) as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel. We wish to thank the personnel of AAFC-PMC who completed the necessary studies and reports in a timely manner. We also wish to express our gratitude to Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) personnel who expedited the review of these submissions so that growers would have access in time for the 2019 growing season.
The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should be making pest management decisions within a robust integrated pest management program and should consult the complete label before using MakoTM Insecticide.

| Use sufficient water for thorough coverage | ||||
MakoTM Insecticide is toxic to aquatic organisms, bees and certain beneficial insects. DO NOT apply this product to blooming crops or weeds while bees are actively visiting the treatment area. Apply early in the morning or late in the evening when bees are less active. Minimize spray drift to reduce harmful effects on bees in habitats close to the application site. Do not contaminate aquatic habitats when spraying or when cleaning and rinsing spray equipment or containers.
Follow all other precautions and directions for use on the MakoTM Insecticide label carefully.
