If you are unable to view a workshop due to a slower internet connection, please contact the workshop leader below for an alternative format. For all workshops, a laptop or computer with a display greater than 12″ is strongly recommended. Some workshops may integrate Slido into the workshop as well, in which case a smart phone with internet connectivity is also recommended but not required.

Introduction to IPM
April 29th, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm
Workshop Facilitator – Denise Beaton, OMAFRA Crop Protection Specialist
This workshop covers topics, such as the importance of integrated pest management, disease causal agents, characteristics, symptoms and damage of different insects and mites, scouting for weeds in horticulture crops, taking good diagnostic pictures, pesticide safety, soil diagnostics, symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, tissue sampling, invasive species and farm visit biosecurity. It is an introductory course that covers the basic information that scouts need to know. Other scouting workshops will build on this information and will be tailored to the specific crops.

Apple IPM Workshop
May 6th, 10:00 – 11:30 am
Workshop Facilitator – Kristy Grigg-McGuffin, OMAFRA Horticulture IPM Specialist
This workshop will cover the basics of orchard scouting including monitoring techniques, tools of the trade, safety protocols and tips for success. Time will also be available to answer any pest-specific questions regarding the pre-recorded presentations.
Strawberry & Raspberry IPM Workshop
May 11th, 9:00 – 11:00 am
Workshop Facilitator – Erica Pate, OMAFRA Fruit Crop Specialist
This workshop will cover strawberry and raspberry pests, including spotted wing drosophila, thrips, cyclamen mites, and aphids. Check out the pre-recorded videos which provide an introduction to berry production systems, strawberry diseases and viruses, and root pests.
