Fungicide Resistance Monitoring – Do you have powdery or downy mildew in your vineyard?

As part of a collaborative project with Michigan State University and Oregon State University, we are collecting samples of powdery and downy mildew in Ontario vineyards.

Samples are collected by either swabbing lesions (powdery) or dabbing with sticky dots (powdery). Up to 25 lesions per site will be collected. The samples will sent to collaborators’ labs to test for resistance genes to Group 11 (Flint, Intuity, Pristine, Sovran) and Group 40 (Forum, Revus, Zampro) and Group 3 (Aprovia Top, Cevya, Fullback, Inspire Super. Mettle, Nova) fungicides.

If you have either powdery or downy mildew (or both) in your vineyard and would like to be included in the survey, please email wendy.mcfadden-smith@ontario.ca with details and contact information and my crew will come and sample. Samples can be collected from lesions as long as there is sporulation or superficial mycelium present. Results will be provided to grower cooperators once they are sent from the collaborators. All results will be confidential but will be compiled into a summary report.
